Harry Cooke interview

It’s ABCC Junior Presentation Night at 6pm TONIGHT.

So it’s time for the final u15 interview with the one and only Harry Cooke.

Q. So Harry, tell me a little bit about yourself?

I’m Harry Cooke, I’m 15, I love rugby and cricket, travelling, and girls!

Q. When did you start coming to Astwood Bank, and what made you want to play cricket?

I started at Astwood bank when I was about 8, I wanted to play cricket because I thought it was really cool and I liked the white trousers!

Q. If you had to pick one cricket legend, that really sticks out in your mind, who would that person be and why?

Butler or Barestow - because their batting style is attacking.

Q. Who was the first team manager you can remember, and why?

John summers was my first team manager and coach, what a legend, nice guy looked after me well, always had my back and grower of a great beard!

Q. What is one of your earliest memories of coming to the Bank?

My earliest memory was when I asked John summers if he could not lecture me because I’d been at school all week and didn’t come to cricket to be lectured!!!

Q. Can you remember one of the most memorable occasions at the Bank, and if so, what was it?

Memorable occasion was getting five golden ducks in a row or the time a hot air balloon crashed that was unreal!

Q. Can you remember a fixture that has stuck out in your mind, and why?

A fixture that stands out is when my dad scored, and I wasn’t even playing in it in the country!!! Which I thought was weird.

Q. What has been one of the most memorable occasions of all the fixtures that you have played, and why?

I remember when Archie broke his thumb.

Q. Can you remember a funny moment at the Bank?

A funny moment I remember is when I told the umpire he should have gone to spec savers and he got really angry!

Q. What advice would you give to a young person who is considering joining Astwood Bank juniors?

Advice I would give to any young person considering joining Astwood bank juniors would be to get in the nets as much as possible because it does make a difference, that the club is really friendly and welcoming, and Claire brings great snacks!

Q. If you could sum up your experiences of your time, in the juniors at Astwood bank, in two words only, what would those two words be?

Encouraging & friendly!

Harry Cooke - I don’t know where to start !! It’s been an interesting but highly entertaining journey. Your mum and dad should have named you Frank (Sinatra) - you always do things your way 🤣 and I just hope something I’ve tried to teach you has sunk in!! H you’re a unique individual, well mannered, a strong willed young man, just keep doing it your way. You are and will be an achiever and no doubt a successful one 👍 I’m really proud of you. Billy & Gwen (wonderful parents) can I thank you for all the support you have given me and Astwood Bank Cricket Club over the years.
