Part 2 of our feature on the U15’s ‘graduating’ from our junior section. Tom Manning shares some of his experiences and thoughts over the last seven years.
Q. So Tom, tell me a little bit about yourself?
I’m Tom Manning, 15 years old, I go to King Edward Vi School in Stratford on Avon (Shakespeare’s school!). I love rugby and cricket.
Q. When did you start coming to Astwood Bank, and what made you want to play cricket?
Around the age of 8…we live right by the cricket club and my neighbour plays.
Q. Who was the first team manager you can remember, and why?
John Summers, he had a desire to win and great coaching tips.
Q. If you had to pick one cricket legend, that really sticks out in your mind, who would that person be and why?
Ben Stokes for what he’s achieved.
Q. What is one of your earliest memories of coming to the Bank?
Friday night hot dogs!
Q. Can you remember one of the most memorable occasions at the Bank, and if so, what was it?
My Grandad watching me.
Q. Can you remember a fixture that has stuck out in your mind, and why?
Halesowen…. went right to the last ball and Zain hit a 6!
Q. What has been one of the most memorable occasions of all the fixtures that you have played, and why?
Achieving my first 50 at Hanbury.
Q. Can you remember a funny moment at the Bank?
Practicing in the nets with my mates.
Q. What advice would you give to a young person who is considering joining Astwood Bank juniors?

Q. If you could sum up your experiences of your time, in the juniors at Astwood bank, in two words only, what would those two words be?

Well done Tom 👏 I used to enjoy wondering which Tom would turn up on match day ! It was either lethargic Tom or Inspired Tom. I’m glad to say as the years went on we would see more of the inspired Tom, culminating at Bromsgrove CC this season on their main ground smashes some massive sixes into the Local housing estate !! - stay inspired young man 👍
